M6x12 countersunk grounding screws with segment cutting edge and scraping tooth
01. requirements
A conductive fastener
Equipotential bonding primarily serves as a protective measure against electric shocks and overvoltage. In the event of a fault, for example if a part of the housing is live, this would endanger people and equipment. Painted or powder-coated metallic base materials cannot be included in the equipotential bonding without pre-treatment of the connection points. When using conventional connecting elements, the contact surface must be polished or kept free of paint. A work step that is time-consuming and cost-intensive.
The VDE-certified countersunk grounding screws developed by DIRAK are equipped with a segment cutting edge and scraping tooth under the screw head. This unique further development enables electrical and mechanical contact with metallic base materials without the need for complex pre-treatment. The countersunk grounding screws provide equipotential bonding both in a countersunk hole and in a cylindrical hole. DIRAK offers M6x12 countersunk grounding screws with a metric thread and a standardized metric thread.
02. product advantages
The functionality of DIRAK countersunk grounding screws
- The segment cutting edges and scraping teeth on the countersunk head of the screws enable a mechanical and electrical fastener between two sheet metal parts.
- The functionality of the countersunk grounding screws is given for both countersunk and cylindrical holes.
- Tested in accordance with DIN EN 61439-1 (VDE 0660 Part 600): 2012-06 “Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies”
- Drive hexalobular socket according to DIN EN ISO 1066 No. 30
- Low screw-in torques due to sliding coating
Segment cutting edge
In a countersunk hole, the segment cutting edge makes electrical contact with the metallic base material. The double-sided design of the segment cutting edge guarantees safe equipotential bonding. When cutting the lacquer layer up to max. 170 µm, no paint chips are produced in the countersink. The segment cutting edge and the scraping tooth increase the underhead friction both in a counterbore and in a cylindrical bore and thus increase the resistance to loosening in the fastener.
Scraping tooth
With a cylindrical hole, the double-sided, 90° offset scraping teeth ensure safe equipotential bonding on the edge of the sheet. By screwing them in, they scratch the painted edge up to max. 170 μm of the hole and make electrical contact with the metal. The segment cutting edge centers the screw in the hole.
Metric thread-forming to DIN 7500
The non-circular cross-section and the slightly conical shape mean that chipless thread forming begins with the first turn of the screw. This hardens the surrounding material and forms the nut thread. The backlash-free seat provides safety against self-loosening under dynamic load. Chipless grooving eliminates the need for chip removal, thread cutting and additional nuts.
Metric
The standardized thread with metric dimensions and 60° flank angle can be easily screwed into the pre-cut thread.
